Jay has developed successful programs in retailing, merchandising and marketing as he has successfully grown his own business. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1978 with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting. Then, he took what he considered "a different path" and started his own business at a time when most of his peers were taking jobs as accountants or going to graduate school. In the summer of 1978, Goltz founded Artists' Frame Service. Starting first in his dad's basement, he soon moved into an old factory district in Chicago. Today, the business is the largest retail, custom picture framing facility in the nation, with over 70 employees. Goltz has won numerous business awards, including being inducted into the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame.
